We saw a little Ford Escort today....had some really silly things written on it. I promise you....on one of the windows was written: 'I love pecans!!"
For breakfast/lunch, Bob and I went back to the Cracker Barrel. Yes, it IS that good. This time, our little waitress gave us apple butter with our biscuits! Yippee! Bob had another Chicken BLT and I had chicken tenderloins (good, average) with mashed potatoes (drier today, with much less butter), and fried apples. Bob had those fried apples as well. We might as well grin and bear it and get those fruits and vegetables eaten! ;)
We enjoyed some down time with Laura. We sat in her daughter's room-2 doors down and across the hall from our Rose-and had a great time with some other people. Then the girls showed up. Yeah, we're in your room. We finally got to meet one of Rose's roommates: Taylor. She is really fantastic. Another girl, Grace, came in from across the hall for some advice from Taylor--so sweet. She knows Rose thru Facebook! This afternoon, after helping Rose with some unpacking (yes, we are still at it!) we went to a new student orientation. Grace's parents had just left, so we took her along with us (our newest child!) to the new student (& parent) orientation. She is going to be a good friend for Rose.
It was very organized and helpful! They talked about the goals of the school and putting the Lord first. I'll probably not get all of this correct, but they discussed that each student's goals should be:
Spiritually Disciplined
Others Serving
God Loving
Christ Proclaiming
Character building
maybe another one or so!
I love it that at BJU they always start with God. The Word of God is where we get direction and instruction. They emphasized getting really involved in a church in the area, getting to Sunday night church, Finding an Outreach Opportunity (Extension), and personal devotions-scheduling in time for that every day.
They also discussed study habits and the decline of grades if spending too much time texting and being on line updating your Facebook profile. (Oh goodness! We really had a great time making obvious faces to Rose--and then to her friends because they looked!!) Also, they told them the good places to study. I heard over and over how much those students are loved and how the teachers want those kids to come to them with any questions--including the deans of the school-including their home phone numbers. They also discussed how safe your student is on campus. They even spoke to the home schooled students about their special challenges. There is even a help place open to anyone who would like someone to assist them with time management, taking notes, or homework.
Later, Bob and I were off to Target to pick up the very last few things. We were really thirsty, so we stopped at the Jack in the Box for their $1 large drink. We were rudely asked what we wanted...we asked several times for a pop, an iced tea, and water and then.....when we got to the window, the lady wouldn't tell us what drink she was handing us! OK. The drinks were absolutely GINORMOUS!! What a deal. Then, they forgot the water. We decided not to ask as the lady looked like she wanted to hurt us. THEN, upon drinking, we discovered that the large cups were literally full of ice! "Wow!" I commented as I showed Bob the ice, "there are just some things about the South that I don't miss!"
A shout out to the people at McDonald's who work in Ellensburg WA: you guys are crazy wonderful!! Even when I just order a tea, you thank me for my business with a nice smile. Thank you!! I appreciate you now! I vow to never mock you again. Really. Well...okay, I won't.
We got our shopping done and got back to the dorm. That little girl of ours was busy at her new student fun event. We checked out the parent thing....but decided to enjoy the nicer weather and went back to the car. The clouds were streaky and wispy--probably from the Hurricane. The weather has cooled down a bit-what? 95 or something? Being from Ellensburg, we can appreciate a nice wind.
We headed straight for TGI Friday's. It's been years since we've been there. Crazy thing though....I guess it's been forever because half of the place was a bar! The other half was a restaurant, but almost everything on the menu was soaked in some kind of alcohol. Not the TGI F that we have fond memories of from years ago. We managed to find something we could eat and got our order. BTW, the slushes are refreshing, amazing, and come with free refills. Mine was mango peach lemonade, while Bob's was strawberry lemonade and they even had fresh lemon slices in them. The waitress was so friendly and got a huge kick out of how much Bob enjoyed his slush.
THEN, we got our meal. NO WAY....GET OUT!! I almost squealed! ha ha...not really...well, I did inside when I had a taste of their Dragonfire Chicken on jasmine rice. Really hot. Extremely amazingly good. I have to try to replicate it at home. It burned my mouth, my throat, my stomach, my intestines.....oh? TMI? I had steamed brocoli and I want the cook's name--that was excellent brocoli. I am not a fan of steamed brocoli, but this was done just right--it still was a bit crisp. Bob's cobb salad was anything but ordinary. Really? Yes....it was fresh and bright. Then we had to decide on dessert. We each had the brownie dessert. It is a hot, fresh Ghiradeli chocolate fudge brownie topped with vanilla bean ice cream (so cold!) then drizzled in warm caramel sauce and decorated with pecans. I couldn't even finish mine...but I couldn't let Bob know until I was sure that I couldn't! Dinner at home will not be as exciting when we get back home.
During dinner, we got some great news. Rose texted us; Guess who is going to BJU? Bob texted back; Do Tell. She texted back; Issac S. I could not believe it! I picked up the phone and called her. He's from WA and is a really great guy. I thought he was going to Pensacola. But, the Lord apparently changed his mind at the very last minute. In fact, his Facebook still says that he's going to PCC. He's in TeenPact and in speech-won a National competition recently. He's always been very kind to our girl and just seems to love people. He's a funny guy so I'm glad BJU gets to have him! I can not believe this! Rose's experience at school is going to be off the charts! Let's hope she studies. tee hee.
Oh yes...I should mention my other children. My son called us right before 10am his time to ask us when his County Fair shoot for .22 rifle was scheduled. 10:00 o'clock silly child. I kept warning him...call first, let them know you are running late-and don't try to hurry when you drive!! Four hours later, we got the call: he got the Grand Champion. Yes, our boy. We are so proud of him and just thrilled that his practicing has paid off for him. He may get the high point award this year. Bob broke the news to him that if he wanted that award, he was going to have to do the one thing he really does not enjoy: giving a public demonstration. He always does a great job--just not his favorite thing to do. In fact, a week ago when he saw that I had signed him up for it he was pretty upset! Now, it seems more agreeable to him.
No pictures. Sad face. We are off to campus church tomorrow!
