The elevator was not working today in our hotel. Kind of a bummer, huh? Well, we found out why later on....we got into the elevator to go to dinner tonight and some guy confessed to bringing 45 concrete blocks onto the elevator and that's why it was broken.
Complete silence.
Maybe he had "some shoes" to hide? We made nice noises and got out of that box as soon as the door slid open! That was weird.
Today, we went shopping!
We met some of Rose's new best friends at the mall. They turned out to be a sweet bunch of young people. I had the pleasure of meeting one young lady's mother, Laura. Laura and her husband have purchased a 2nd home here in Greenville and are going to spend their summers and Christmas's at home in Alaska. We quickly exchanged cell numbers and ended up meeting for lunch. We went to Panera Bread. Bob and I had wonderful, fresh salads. Bob chose a baguette for his side while I chose a sliced apple. The chicken on my salad was very fresh and was sliced off the bone. I also ordered a watermelon cup. It turned out to be freshly cut cubes of watermelon in a tiny cup. At $1.99 this was a bit of a disappointment. But it was all very fresh and yummy.
We went on to Walmart with the crowd. Pretty soon, Rose was not feeling well. Her neck was burning hot....exhaustion, anxiety, and an overload of changes were the diagnosis. So we gave our apologies to our new friends and headed back for a wonderful nap.
We went to Bed, Bath and Beyond. They have this wonderful service called "pack and hold". You register just like a bridal registry in your home state and then when you get to your new place, you waltz in and they have everything there for you. Rose picked out some pretty towels and then we checked out. Rose wanted to be responsible for her dorm things, in addition to her books and clothes, so she was the one paying for it. She's growing up! ;) The staff there was incredibly helpful and kind. We could not have asked for better service--they treated Rose like a princess.
We came out of BB & B and saw this beautiful sunset.
AND then.....
We went to my all time favorite Southern restaurant:
THE CRACKER BARREL
We guzzled gallons of their peach tea and savored every crumb of their delicious, famous biscuits. Rose enjoyed her meat loaf with homemade coleslaw, fries and fried apples (yep...got those veggies in!) Bob got a Chicken BLT and it was literally the best he has ever had. He also enjoyed the coleslaw and some fries. I had the hickory smoked ham (off the bone) with mashed potatoes (they were out of sweet potato casserole) and fried apples. Then we saved room for: chocolate fudge cake made with real Coca-Cola. Well, Bob was difficult and ordered apple dumplings, but they were out--used up all the apples for us girls! ha ha. He got blackberry cobbler instead; hot and delicious!
I'd show my round and satisfied little tummy but......I think you get the picture!!
Afterwards, we did a drive by of this place: Rose's new home for the next 4 years.
We even drove by our little trailer where we lived our senior year of college. We almost didn't recognize it because the carport had been transformed into a nice deck. It had hanging flowers and plants and looked well loved. That deck is for the best: we never really did use the carport...it was in a low spot and would flood when it rained! Bob used to carry me from the steps to the Jeep! So many fun memories!
Off to registration tomorrow! Wish us well!
