The Second Day...
Robbie found me and we hung out for awhile together.
We walked to the library and found Rose in the computer lab...
she was helping another classmate with a project that was due the next hour.
Rose had her Computer Fluency class (the next hour),
so I decided to go to class with her because
it was a work/turn in your project day for that class.
She continued to help her friend a bit during class...
but we were able to leave after a while
because Rose had already handed in her completed project several days before.
While she was busy though,
I got a chance to visit with the teacher.
Such a lovely lady.
That entire time, Robbie was out in the next room examining the books.
When we found him, he was excitedly looking at a book
that he had just read at school...
but this book was from an original printing.
:: Wow ::
Rose, Robbie and I then went to the 'Cuppa Jones' coffee house.
We purchased some delicious drinks,
talked with some friends and then headed outside into the balmy air.
If you haven't seen the BJU campus...
here's a chance to see the architecture.
I stood in the courtyard outside of the coffeehouse with my camera
and took pictures while turning in a circle.
So here we are at the sitting area courtyard outside of 'Cuppa Jones'.
Then, turning to my left we see the new, beautiful Seminary and Evangelism Building.
There is a really beautiful window above this entrance.
Ha! I just happened to NOT take a picture of it.
I didn't mean to make you sad.
Stiff Upper Lip!
Moving on...
Now you see the left side of the Seminary and Evangelism Center...
The side walk meanders through a pretty green area towards the men's dorms.
The other building is a wing of the Alumni Building where a lot of classes are held,
along with computer labs, teacher's offices and really...
the typical rooms and other such nonsense that colleges tend to have....
Now, turning again to the left...
you see the entrance to the other wing of the Alumni Building.
In this next picture what you see is a side view of the walkway to the Library.
You walk under the little rain roof to the left to get to the main entrance.
The round part of the building is actually my favorite part of the library.
It's a beautiful curved staircase leading to the upstairs.
There is a beautiful sculpture that the staircase curves around as it goes upward.
The South Carolina sky.
It was a wee bit nippy...yet still amazing weather
The sky was a gorgeous pearl grey with clouds that swooped and swirled...
later on in the day we experienced thunder showers.
Here we are still turning to the left...
and looking up at the side of the two story library building.
And here we are back at the coffee house.
Isn't it adorable?
I should've taken pictures inside...
but didn't want to embarrass the kidlets. :)
Next, we met up with Rose's friend D.
They had their speech class next...
and needed to study for the test...
so we left them to study...
Robbie had thoroughly enjoyed the library....
and said he wanted to go back--just to look at the books.
You can tell he's from a small town.
The amount of books they have in there is mind blowing though.
I remember being fascinated by the incredible volume
of their book inventory when I was a student.
First, we went to look at the area where I used to study...
(what? no plaques no commemoration?)
and then we browsed some of the stacks...
Robbie found many books from the 1800's.
We examined the bindings, the coloring, the cut of the pages....
it all was fascinating.
Next it was chapel-but today was Literary Society Meeting.
D. and Robbie ran off to different Societies
while Rose and I went to hers.
Robbie wasn't seen again all day--
but we heard of sightings!!
For Rose's society meeting...
One young lady had made delicious snacks.
It was then that I discovered my camera battery was dead.
See? I've made you sad again.
But...
I'll DESCRIBE the goodies!
Imagine chocolate chip cookies...
then 2 marshmallows with chocolate chips for the eyes,
and an almond for the nose...
and you have an owl.
The mascot for Rose's society.
So clever!
One young lady gave a devotional.
She really encouraged the girls to not expect life to be perfect...
perfectly planned out, everything going as planned...
but that God allows these things in life...
we should think of them as opportunities to use them for His glory!
I can't wait to reread that part in the Bible
and think about it for myself.
Perhaps on the airplane ride home.
Robbie must have gone on to lunch...
so Rose and her friend D. and I had lunch together.
We had a lot of fun.
Then we bee-bopped around getting little things done...
I knew Robbie was going to a Civil War class...
so I didn't attempt to find him...
so while Rose went to her speech class test,
I enjoyed a self-guided tour of
the little "History of BJU" museum located in the library.
After that class hour, I met up with Rose and D.
They had passed by Robbie-
he was eagerly waiting for a special tour of another building.
Later on in the day, I got to sit in on Rose's English class.
I was excited because I was an English major in college.
Afterwards, the teacher and I were able to chat...
during college his wife and I used to sit together in most of our classes.
We had similar last names...
and were both English majors.
So we kinda knew each other!
The three of us were even in a writing class together.
Good memories.
Happy times.
Such a blessing to catch up with him.
God was so good today.
Places I didn't realize were hollow...
were just filled up with joy and smiles.
Well, lots more went on...
we went to the Chamber Orchestra Concert.
D.'s sister was in it...she plays the viola.
D. insisted we sit in the very front row.
In the middle.
In the very front.
Crazy kid.
He's quite loyal to his sister! ;)
A good guy!
Later, he called his other sister to tell her Happy Birthday.
Then we had a fun dinner with D. and his sweet, dear sister.
Now I can see why Rosie refers to her as her sister.
It was an amazing day.
When Rose and I got to say our final good-byes...
it was a sweet, sweet time.
We are so very proud of her...
and the woman she is becoming...
She still has a bit of growing up to do-
but don't we all??!!!
I left her with a suitcase full of presents
and walked back to my little room.
Such a wonderful time.
I am packed and ready to go to bed.
I'm ready to go home.
I would love to stay for a few more days...
but life and reality calls me back.
Sweet-tea dreams y'all!
