For about 20 years,
yeah,
20 years....
(maybe more!)
I have admired those tall 1940's radios with the wood cabinet.
Like this:
and....like this....
BUT
you know...
these things never seem to quite work out...
EITHER...
it was outrageously expensive,
the cabinet was broken and the radio worked:
OR
it was outrageously expensive,
the radio was broken and the cabinet was gorgeous!
OR...like this one here...
affordable...but REALLY broken!
soooo....
imagine my surprise one morning...
when I went on line to view our local swap on Facebook...
and found a beautiful 1940's working radio
for sale.
And.....
I can't find the photo.
But it was pretty.
And only $150.
And looked like the gorgeous one up above!
But...
a local businessman,
known for his shrewd business deals,
and eye for quality,
had already pounced on it.
:: sigh ::
AND...
to make my heart sigh a little bit more...
he had offered the owner just $100 for it.
and she had accepted it.
Oh.
My.
Bummer.
Hmmmm.....
I have had a special table on our local swapmeet
for sale
for
a
long
time.
Everyone loved it...
but couldn't pay the price:
$150.
So, recently, I had lowered the price to $125.
I checked my messages...
a sweet lady had messaged me and asked if I would go down to $100.
Ah-
NO.
Sorry, lady.
Then...
she messaged me right back...
OK! I still want it...
can I come by and look at it?
And a lightbulb moment happened.
What if....
no...I can't...
...not nice...
probably against some kinda rule...
hmmm....
what if I private messaged this 1940's radio woman
and
offered $125?
Happy dance!
Happy dance!
No.
The Lord reminded me of a few things:
* I'm trying to get rid of stuff. *
* My husband won't like it. *
* It wouldn't be nice to offer more $ *
when she had already accepted someone else's offer...
even if it was less...
and he's not a nice man.
Did I type that?
Bad fingers!
Bad!!
God loves him.
And that was rude of me.
So...what's a girl to do?
I emailed my husband and told him what was going on.
He said to do whatever-he didn't mind!!!!!
Cool!
I was sorely tempted to message the 1940's radio woman...
and give her my offer.
I even started a message...
but cancelled it.
I prayed.
and asked the Lord about it.
I had "permission" from my husband.
I might have the money...later...
maybe too late...
But...
should I want it?
do I need to own it?
I decided that if the Lord meant for me to have it
(which was becoming more unlikely by the minute)
that He would make it possible.
The sweet lady drove up to my home just then.
She hopped out.
Looked at the my special table.
We loaded it up into her jeep.
She paid me.
$125.
Deep breath.
I looked on line...
It appeared that the business man was late for his appointment for the 1940's radio.
So I prayed about it.
Lord?
Do you mean for me to have this radio?
or not?
I started feeling disappointment...
this businessman knows a good deal...
and he's very interested.
But, I went ahead and messaged the lady...
and offered $125.
But, still, I felt discouraged.
In my mind...the radio was gone...
and how absolutely silly! of me to want it so dearly.
If the Lord had been meant it to be mine...
it would have happened.
Sometime later, I checked my in box.
The businessman had passed on the deal.
He wasn't interested ?!
and would I like to come over and look?
Happy dance!
Happy dance!
So, I did.
Praying the entire time.
Lord?
I hope this radio really does work...
and is beautiful as well...
this is too good to be true !
I walked into their beautiful 1930's art deco home...
and met the lady and her husband.
I also heard a radio playing.
And then, there it was...
beautiful
and
working.
They ended up giving me a tour of the house!!
The previous owner was a cabinet maker and had built the home...
the home had many, many beautiful built in's and details!
I had a wonderful time!
So cool.
and I made some friends.
Super Cool.
We checked out the radio.
It was everything I had hoped for.
With a smile, I said, "Okay! I'll take it!"
The couple carried it out to my car
and I was delighted!
I couldn't stop thanking the Lord
as I handed over the $125!
And then the lady mentioned off handedly...
"You were meant to have this radio"
What?
She said it several more times...
You...were *meant* to have this...
Really?
So, I took a deep breath and asked what I had been wondering...
"Why did the businessman pass on this radio?"
It was beautiful !!
It worked !!
I did not understand !!
The lady started to laugh!
And her husband as well!
The story:
The businessman had been to their home...
for nearly 45 minutes
BUT
the radio...
would.
not.
work !
Seriously
it.
would.
not.
work !
Nothing she did
or tried
made that radio turn on.
She wiggled wires,
turned knobs,
unplugged, plugged in, unplugged, plugged in...
It was dead.
The businessman
wiggled wires,
turned knobs,
unplugged, plugged in, unplugged, plugged in...
It was dead.
He was disgusted.
He left.
The husband came home
just as the businessman was leaving...
and turned.
on.
the.
radio.
and asked his wife why the guy didn't buy it.
WHAT?
So, they tried to make it
not.
work.
They fiddled.
They fussed.
They unplugged.
They plugged in.
But it was just fine...
and played every station just as merrily as before.
And then I drove up.
End of story.
* * * * *
Sometimes, when I'm in the middle of a hard time,
I forget how much you love me...
and begin wonder where you are at...
thank you for the beautiful gift
it will always remind me of how much you love me.
So where did I put that beautiful 1940's radio?
Ha! Ha! Ha!
that's the really funny part:
** INTO STORAGE! **
why?
well...
WE ARE MOVING!!
See ya next time!
(I can't wait to play it in my new home!!)
Why don't you leave a comment and
GUESS
where we are going?
