Life in the South

I went to South Carolina for the first time
in August 1987.
Whew!
IT WAS HOT.
THE AIR WAS THICK.

Bob Jones University is not an exclusively southern campus...
its students come from all over the United States
and the world (!)

But, I did learn some things about the South when I was there.

Next, we moved to Oregon.
4 years.

Then off to Northern California
3 years.
(And it ought to be its own state)

Then the military took us to Georgia.
4+ years.
(September 11th held us in)
Boy, did I enjoy Georgia!
But, once again,
we lived on the base with people from all over the United States
and the world (!)
But we attended church,
our children attended school
and we made many friends outside the base.

Then we moved to Washington.
{State! people!
Washington is a state!
Washington DC-different.}
ahem.
where was I?
Oh....okay....we lived there for
10 years.

From the beginning, my husband's work kept him from home...
it always made me sad...
but I always thought and hoped it would get better.
But
it.
didn't.
And, because I was lonely, I decided to join in
my children's (way too) many activities.
And I started doing what my husband was doing.
too much.
We needed to stop.

So.
I've learned a few things....
and these things have nothing to do with North VS South...
but it does help to live in the South
when you decide your life is too crazy busy
and you need to slow down.

These Southerners
know.
slow.

If someone's not sweet
or has road rage...
I KNOW
they are not from around here.
Just sayin.

I do not want to make this blog into a
North VS South
blog.
I truly enjoy the southern culture
just as much as I enjoy living out West.
This blog is about my view on life-that's all.
(which explains why I have only 7-yes, all of you are loved!-members)
And this blog is about
a promise
my husband and I made.
No responsibility for one year.
No teaching, no helping, no racing, no volunteering...
no! no! no!
OK
I WILL let you know when I learn a new word...
or marvel at the heat while it pours rain...
or feel pressured to volunteer...
do you feel better?

I absolutely adore Ellensburg.
I want to move back.
But, not right now.
God has some plans for our family right now.
God called us to Greenville, South Carolina.
We KNOW this.
And if HE wills it,
we will go back to sweet Ellensburg.
We're just leaving that open for now.

I found a beautiful blog today.
Go ahead and look at it.
But come back!
;)

And read this....

Amen.

And,
Thank you Lord, for keeping everyone in Ellensburg safe.

A very good promise you two have made. Time to get back to you two and you family. Enjoy the time and practice 'no' as much as needed!

I have felt a similar sense of freedom since we moved. We are only here for a year so there is no pressure to make deep rooted friends, volunteer, get involved. I am just taking care of my family and it feels good to not be so busy. Although school just started and I spend way too much time in the car getting them to and fro, but it feels good to not have as much on my plate. You are right about the south! Love it!
